The Castoroides (cass-tor-oy-dees) or Giant Beaver is a large mammalian herbivore found in ARK: Survival Evolved. Known for its ability to gather wood extremely efficiently, it is one of the best creatures for wood collection. Unlike other larger beaver species, it retains the chisel-shaped teeth of modern beavers. Castoroides builds dams containing large quantities of Wood, Cementing Paste, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, and Silica Pearls.

Behavior
- Builds dams containing large quantities of Wood, Cementing Paste, Rare Flower, Rare Mushroom, and Silica Pearls
- Very protective of their dams - will attack anyone who threatens them
- Will not attack unless aggravated - can walk right up to them safely unless provoked
- Often found near swamps and waterways
- Can be seen grouping up against larger predators like Carnos or Raptors
- Friendly temperament - one of the safer creatures to approach
