The Dilophosaur (also called Dilo) is a small carnivorous dinosaur from the Early Jurassic period in ARK: Survival Evolved. Known for its distinctive twin crests and neck frill, the Dilophosaur is a territorial predator that can spit venom to blind and slow its prey. While too small to ride, they make excellent guard animals due to theirshrill cry and ranged spit attack that obscures vision.

Dilophosaurus sputatrix is a strange creature. It stands at just over half the size of known Dilophosaurs and runs from aggressors as often as it fights them. Instead of attacking its prey outright, Dilophosaurus sputatrix spits venom to weaken and paralyze it before moving in for the kill.

Behavior
- Very small aggravation range but becomes aggressive when threatened
- Often found in small groups of 2-3 despite not officially being pack animals
- Will sometimes flee rather than fight
- Preys on Parasaur, Dodo, Moschops, Lystrosaurus and other small creatures
- Spits venom before engaging in melee - watch for the projectile
- Highly adaptable - found on beaches, plains, jungles, swamps, caves, and redwood forests
