The Leech is one of the most notorious creatures in ARK, infamous for its parasitic nature and ability to drain blood from survivors and tames. Found primarily in swamp regions across multiple maps, Leeches are small but dangerous invertebrates that leap from water to attach to victims. While they cannot be properly tamed, they can be captured in Fish Baskets for later use. They are the primary vector for Swamp Fever, a debilitating disease that can infect survivors and Dodos.

It is difficult to be angry with Haementeria laetus, despite its rather terrible nature. The creature has practically no intelligence, and just attaches to any nearby living flesh in an attempt to drain that creature
Domesticated
While Haementeria is not intelligent enough to be tamed, it is always useful to keep a few around for antidotes and fishing lures. When processed properly, Haementeria venom can be made into a powerful antivenom!
Behavior
- Aggressive parasitic creature found in swamps
- Lurks in water waiting for victims to pass by
- Leaps out of water to attach to survivors
- Drains health, stamina, and increases hunger when attached
- Can transmit Swamp Fever (Diseased Leech variant)
- Attaches with mouth full of sharp rasping teeth
- Cannot be removed by normal means - requires fire
- Attacks in swarms during rain
