Creature Guide
ReptilesOverview
The Tapejara (Tapejara imperator) is a remarkable Cretaceous-period pterosaur known for its extraordinary aerial agility. This mid-sized flying creature features a distinctive rudder-like sensory fin extending from its snout to the back which functions as a of its skull, sophisticated balance and navigation organ, allowing it to fly with unparalleled grace and perform unique maneuvers like hovering and strafing without forward momentum. Unlike other Island flyers, the Tapejara can fly backwards and change direction almost instantaneously, making it the most maneuverable aerial mount in ARK. In the wild, these creatures inhabit cliff faces and tall redwood forests, using their razor-sharp claws to latch onto vertical surfaces and hold position indefinitely. They are carnivorous and skittish by nature, fleeing at the first sign of danger. When tamed, Tapejara become versatile warbirds equipped with a unique triple-rider saddle, enabling two passengers to fire handheld weapons while the pilot controls movement. Their ability to latch onto surfaces allows mounted teams to engage enemies from defensible positions. While not as fast as Pteranodon over distance, the Tapejara

Domesticated
Warlike tribes appear to consider Tapejara the equivalent of a versatile rotor aircraft, capable of rapid positional changes and aggressive agility. When domesticated the Tapejara is typically outfitted with a unique triple-rider saddle, enabling two passengers to wield handheld weaponry while the pilot takes the reins. When the Tapejara is latched onto a surface, both the passengers and pilot are able to make full use of their weapons together! Evidently what this skittering creature lacks in distance-stamina, constitution, and weight carrying capacity, it makes up for in maneuverability and combat versatility.
